The Prize
We have always been huge Jeremy Soule fans. In fact, a couple of years ago when the Ten Ton Hammer staff sat down to select the recipient of our Decade Award for Best Sound and Score, the original Guild Wars won by a landslide:
Guild Wars had such a powerful score it prompted many players to get a copy of the soundtrack on CD. It's no wonder, considering the talent behind the soundtrack. British Academy Award winner Jeremy Soule was able to capture and immortalize the gaming experience behind Guild Wars. The score is appropriately suspenseful in tense combat, and airy, but no less potent in exploration.
For our latest giveaway, one (1) lucky winner will receive a copy of the complete, four disc official soundtrack for Guild Wars 2, signed by composer Jeremy Soule. (front and back covers shown below - click to enlarge)

Your reply does not have to be specific to the score; voice acting, ambient or environmental sounds, or even a favorite skill activation audio component are all fair game. Of course if you have any favorite in-game music we'd love to hear about that as well.
We're mainly interested in getting some feedback (bad audio pun fully intended) about which aspects of the audio in Guild Wars 2 makes your virtual socks go up and down. I'll even see to it that your feedback makes its way to the audio team at ArenaNet once the contest period has ended, so this doubles as an opportunity to let them know what you think.
The contest is open from now until 11:59 PM Eastern Time on Monday, September 24th. At that point, one lucky winner will be selected at random from the complete list of entrants.
Good luck everyone - we look forward to reading your comments. And remember, we'll have another giveaway coming up next week so be sure to keep your browser dials set to the GW2Hub channel!

...that I can't listen dat audio because didn't win copy nor CE with best reply comment and best ideas comment
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is...the way it pulls you into the world without you realizing it. Before you even realize it, you're being swept up in emotions brought upon by the music and the non-stop action on the screen. Without the epic music, there is no Guild Wars 2 and the monumental success it has been.

My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is that among the new music that holds the feel of the races there is occasional nostalgic blasts of music from the areas of Guild Wars 1.
I'm obviously exempt from entering the contest, but one of my absolute favorite things about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is when a Risen asura comes charging at me yelling "It Begins!" For some reason it always makes me think of Gir from Invader Zim and then I bust out laughing thinking about Gir running around wearing an asura costume. :P
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is the way it sneaks up on you. I don;t even notice it most of the time. Nice, kind of ambient exploration music. When I'm just wandering around and have some music in the background, it's very out of the way.
But then an event chain hits. I'm fighting hoards of undead, ghosts, ogres, what have you. The music is building as me and 50 other heroes are fighting through this army. Then, suddenly, a boss appears. And the music is AWESOME. Chat starts going nuts with people giving out tactics on how to beat it, and the music keeps building until, after fighting the thing for what may seem like a lifetime, the damn thing goes down. Everyone cheers, phat loot is had, and the music settles down once again, ready to rise on a moments notice.
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is the dynamic nature of it and how well it matches up with the dynamic nature of the game. As events pick up and settle down around you, you can feel the music change to match it at every step. Just one of the many reasons why I will never mute this game to play some other music as I have done for so many games in the past.
... how the music matches the visual splendor with variations due to activity. One example is the music on vistas. The soaring music on the PvE vistas seems to carry the splendor of the visuals. Looking at a Vista on WvW has a martial theme as it pans out over the battlefield.
Honestly, the music adds to the environs throughout the whole experience.
Bravo.
How Jeremy Soule who is a legend in game music making, creates such a soundtrack that you can listen to and be struck by awe of the game world without being inside the game.
It brings out the best emotions in you, and that is pure art!
I especially love the main and norn themes, they lift my spirits to a whole new level.
..The fact I've just spent four hours straight trying to make my WvW duel clips match it
EDIT: Oopsie, I sort of miss-read the question, another try!
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is...
The voice acting for all the little things like cripple or swapping attunements. Hearing things like "They will burn!" when swapping to fire is awesome, but when my thief was crippled while making a hasty escape and went "Ahh! My legg! Ohh.." I fell in love.
Are you a guardian? Let me introduce you to my Flesh Golem, he's getting a bit hungry.
that the creators could find the exact balance. Thorough the whole game we can hear living, fresh audio effects with rich textures but most of them easily blend into the whole experience without the player noticing them in every moment. The precise selection and clever placing makes the effects the most useful companion during leaning curve to play the game not only with your eyes, but with your ears as well.
What music brings is completion. I do not consider it as a soundtrack for GW2, but a soundtrack of my own adventures.
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is the intro cinematic when creating a character. The voice acting, music and all the sound effects really gives you the feeling of being a part of the game! :)
Honestly? Everything! The voice acting is just amazing for every character and i feel as if i'm really there when my character speaks to npcs makes the game feel more alive. The music is just omg it fits each zone, battle, cinematic perfectly to set the mood. I have yet to find anything i didn't like about the audio in GW2
i was frantically racing around in a level 40-50 zone and notice the music playing, on which i decided to stop, type /sit between some non-hostile pig NPC's and listen to the music, with the gentle grunting of the pigs in the back ground . This keeps happening to me, that i have to stop and listen to the music before i can go any further.
The epic mood it sets
It brings the Tyria to life.
It brings the Tyria to life.
that now I can listen to it playing on a native version of Guild Wars 2 running on Mac OS X.
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is... I don't turn off the music for my own mp3's. Plus it always seems to fit to what you are doing, and the area you are in.
that I never felt the urge to turn it off (as with many other games), because it fits like a glove in any situation.
they kept the original score and added some great music to draw you into the experience. For example, when I started my Charr character I noticed the "raw power" in the soundtrack when in the area, which was different from the Azura music.
"My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is..."
How it makes me feel. From getting my blood pumping in the heat of battle to the soothing serene sound of water meandering by.
that I don't have to turn music down and listen my own music
the same as Jericzek, I have no desire to turn it off and turn on Media Player.
the music! The music is directed excellently into the environment and improves the atmosphere of each scene.
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is... It's unobtrusive. I don't like sound effects or music that pull you out of immersion. I like to be able to turn the music down a little, and just let it soak in. GW2 does exactly that, you hardly even notice the sound effects or audio, they just ARE.
...nice combination of tender melodies and epic marches.
Being a musician, I cannot join those posts above for whom the music is an unnoticed background for much of the time. Every beautiful composition plays through whatever I am doing and enters my memory. Each piece from the first GW takes me back to experiences had in that game, and yes, I loved it then, and I love it as much now. Each new piece captures my attention as my brain begins to capture it and hold it. You chose very very well when you gave the GW1 score the prize, and the GW2 score will deserve prizes as well. There is a lot of fine music in the gaming world. The music of the Final Fantasy and Age of Conan scores come to mind. None is better than Jeremy Soule's! It is perfect accompaniment for the fantasy settings we all know and love so well.
The thing I love most about it is that it is such good music that I will not tire of hearing it before I leave the game and move on to the next big thing.
the way it makes exploring towns still feel epic.
I can listen to the soundtracks repetitively - I don't get bored and end up muting. Fits very well with my mood while playing.
I don't even notice that it's a soundtrack sometimes until it the sound cuts out and the world seems a little flatter.
My favorite things about GW2 is without the audio, the game would only be 1/3 there. Sneaking int a place where enemies lie in wait for you, the music slows and just before you are attacked, the cacaphony of sound washes over you. This isn't just noise, the battle tone as been set, the enemies are named by and as you lose and then win the music plays as it should, hurry hurry hurry fight the attackers off or slows down so that as you started to die, less noise, fewer attack skills and the music is always there. Keeping you alive and winning and trying to get you back on your feet so that can finish your fight while alive.
Once the fight is over and all of your team is rezzed (if need be), you can split the loot of take your share.
And the music still plays on to help you travel or port to the next town.
NO GREAT music, the game SUCKS.
that ArenaNet is one of the few companies that puts at least as much effort into the game audio as the gorgeous graphics and art that the game offers.
From distinct battle music that immerses me into the battle to nostalgic soundtracks that start playing while you're marvelling at a beautiful sight in the world: Guild Wars 2 has it all
One thing I like to do when I log off is press /sleep in a scenic location, for example near a vista. Then I just let the music soak in as I listen to my character snoring away (how much detail can you put into something as simple as sleeping? - it's just amazing). That way I can really cherish my last few moments in the world before returning to real life.
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is... (are) the great skill sounds!
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is... that it is actually good. Normally I shut off the music in MMO's after the first few hours. I've sunk around 200 hours into GW2 and the music is still on and enjoyable.
the terrain change under my feet -running on a dirt road or over grass, snow, rock. The submersible sounds of swimming / fighting under water. (Brilliant foley!) The sound my eagle "Fawkes" makes letting out a cry as he swoops down on prey. The games' soundtrack is rich, uniquely beautiful and moving. It is the finishing touch at putting me in an altered state of reality in such a way as few games have done before, allowing true escapism. If you haven't played the game with a good pair of headphones - I highly recommend it.
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is the fullness of the sound, and the fact that it add to the epic feeling of the game. When you start up the game and get that first measure of the overture how could you not fall in love with the soundtrack.
... that the blend of sounds synchronize perfectly and create a beautiful musical experience. I also love the racial songs. I feel like I'm a part of the world when I listen to them.
My favorite thing about the audio in Guild Wars 2 is that it counts in the environment - so when you are in cave, there is an echo! Little detail that´s just making the whole picture just better!
that only Mahler could have wrote a better soundtrack to this brilliant game. Cheers, anyway.
