Unlike other MMOG achievement systems, in Guild Wars 2 players will have a combination of achievements based on long-term, monthly, and daily goals. This guide will walk you through the latter achievement type, providing tips and useful information to help you quickly and easily complete them on each of your characters.
Why should you be interested in completing the daily achievements in GW2? The most obvious and direct benefit for doing so is that for completion of each tier, you will earn a flat Exp reward. Read on to learn more about each of the four currently available Daily achievement tracks!

The most basic and easily obtained achievements in Guild Wars 2 are Daily Achievements. Most casual players should be able to complete them all in a relatively short amount of time through normal play, but it helps to be aware of what achievements are available to begin with so that you can decide if you want to strive to complete them each day.
The current Daily Achievements are as follows:
Daily Kills
Most players will easily obtain this achievement each day so long as you’re actively participating in events, playing personal story missions, or regularly engaging in combat otherwise.
Daily Kill Variety
Killing 15 different types of enemies is also fairly simple, though may require you to move around the map a bit to ensure you’re entering combat with a diverse cross-section of creatures.
- Tip: While traveling between points, defeat a least one of each type of creature you encounter along the way. Not only will this help lock in your Daily Kill Variety achievement, but can also help contribute to the various Slayer achievements at the same time.
Daily Gatherer
Another simple achievement, you will unlock this very quickly by gathering metal, wood, and various types of plants as you’re out adventuring.
- Tip: Make sure to purchase and equip gathering tools or else you won’t be able to gather from nodes
- Tip: It doesn’t matter which node types you gather from, so gathering metal, plants, or wood 20 times each or some combination of the three will help you complete the achievement.
- Tip: Remember to keep an eye on the mini-map for gathering nodes while out adventuring!
Daily Events
This is the easiest of the 4 current daily achievements to obtain as the only requirement is to complete a set number of events which you will mostly likely be doing anyway.
Tracking Daily Achievement Progress
As shown in the image above, each daily achievement has multiple ranks. As each of these is completed, you will receive an on-screen alert that informs you of your overall progress, along with an XP award. Since your progress on the daily achievements may also coincide with one of the longer term achievements, or other in-game activities where your progress is tracked, it’s entirely possible that you will occasionally see multiple alerts at once. An example of this is shown below:
In this instance the player made progress in three areas at once by completing a skill challenge
Tracking Progress in the Hero Panel
You can also track your progress at any time by opening the Hero panel [H key] and clicking on the achievement tab located on the left of the window (the small ArenaNet symbol as shown here to the right).
The top category listing is for Daily Achievements, and will display your total progress as a percentage on the left panel, with a full breakdown of your progress in each individual achievement track shown to the right.
Additional Achievement Categories
As you will see, there are a number of additional achievement types in Guild Wars 2 including Monthly, Slayer, Hero, PvP Conqueror, Tradesman, Explorer, Fashion, Weapon Master, and Community.
The final category - Hall of Monuments - is directly associated with the overall progress you've made in the original Guild Wars if you've linked your GW1 account to the one you're using in GW2. You can see your overall progress here by visiting the official Hall of Monuments Reward Calculator.

Good break down. This will be very helpful to use as a follow-up guide. Especially since it's such a great source of xp each day.
I may have missed this in the press info somewhere...but what are the "ArenaNet Points" that you get from achievements used for? Is it just a metric of how many achievements you have, or will it be used as a currency?

Reading other entries on the web related to the achievements system, it sounds they are just kind of there. They don't seem to have any realy purpose other than to reference achievements met.
An interesting discussion I found, however, brings up the point that the Short Term Achiements, ie Daily's, kind of go against the who rewarding element of the Achievements. Dailies are realy easy to get and are repeated...ummm...daily. As a result they cumulatively far outway the harder, longer term achievements. Why try to get an achievement that takes 20 hours of playtime and gives the same amount of reward of playing only 1 hour a day for 5 days?
This isn't really a new problem. With any games achievement system, it either is meaningless, or out weighed by short term/easy achievements verses long term/hard achievements.
So....what's the answer? I don't know. Any ideas?

I will be a slave to the PvE side of the achievement system.
I could be wrong but I think I hit the kill variety daily in structured PvP in the BWE. Anyone know if this applies to PvP? I am pretty sure I saw it pop up after downing someone but i was too busy looking for who was next to focus much on it.
