In Guild Wars 2, players begin to accumulate skill points once they reach level 5 with which to use to purchase new slot skills. However, every player wants to grab as many skills as they can get their grubby lil' player hands on, and that requires more skill points that can be accumulated by just one per level. Guild Wars 2 offers a solution to this dilemma by giving the players to gain additional skill points through the successful completion of skill challenges.

As players travel through the various zones of Guild Wars 2, each explorable zone, whether it be PvE or WvW, has a number of skill challenges found there, which can be easily seen on the loading screen when loading into the zone. With Guild Wars 2's dynamic leveling system, a player can travel into any zone, no matter what the level, and square off against danger and adventure. To help you squeeze out every skill point possible, GuildWars2Hub.com offers this complete guide to skill challenges in the Wayfarer Foothills.

The Wayfarer Foothills are the starting zone for norn characters in Guild Wars 2. The area varies in nature with players starting in a woodland area and then progressing to the frigid, icy heights of the mountains. The Wayfarer Foothills has a total of eight skill challenges, the same as Metrica Province, the starting zone for the asura, and one more than Queensdale, the starting zone for humans in Guild Wars 2.

Each skill challenge in Guild Wars 2 will result in the reward of an additional skill point if the skill challenge is successfully completed. The skill challenges in Guild Wars 2 can range from simple interaction with an object to a furious fight against multiple foes. If you have to fight for a skill challenge, make sure that you're an approximate level of the NPC.

Skill challenge locations are marked on your map. To see where they are located, open your map by hitting the [M] key.

Skill Challenge #1 - Hostra's Refuge

The first skill challenge in the Wayfarers Foothills lies at Hostra's Refuge. To get to the skill challenge, you'll have to swim underwater from the river to the challenge location. It's very easy to see where to go. As you swim, you'll have to fight through a few alpine skelks to get through.

Once you've reached the skill challenge, you'll have to fight against Bear Shaman Marga. She will transform into a giant beat that you'll have to defeat. The fight is very straightforward and you shouldn't have any issues with it. Just activate any useful abilities you have, such as traps, right before you start the fight. One bear beat-down later, you'll have a shiny new skill point added to your collection.

Skill Challenge #2 - Hangrammr Climb

The second skill challenge in the Wayfarer Foothills is found up at Hangrammr Climb. All you have to do here is to commune with Issormir's Body, the remains of the giant wurm from the norn tutorial, which is represented by a pillar of light. Running up all the stairs to this location is harder work than interacting with the wurm's corpse.

Skill Challenge #3 - Hermit's Watch

The third skill challenge is found at Hermit's Watch, located in the Darkriven Bluffs section of the Wayfarer Foothills. Getting to the skill challenge is a challenge in of itself as you'll have to fight through a camp of the Sons of Svanir to reach the challenge. The skill challenge is a fight against Blane the Insane. The fight is pretty standard, but with one exception. Blane has an AoE attack, which you will notice by a red circle appearing on the ground. If you don't move out of the circle, you'll be hit by shards of ice. Once you've defeated him, talk to him and you'll gain your skill point.

Skill Challenge #4 - The Shadowhorns

The fourth skill challenge in the Wayfarer Foothills is located in the Shadowhorns. Here, you'll have to fight (the norn sure love to fight for their skill points!) Burrisson the Blue, who is luxuriating in a hot spring. The fight isn't difficult. Burrisson opens up the fight with a spinning attack, which he'll use a few times during the fight. Just dodge back and keep beating on him. After you beat him, he'll go back to soaking in the hot spring.

Skill Challenge #5 - Hunter's Lake

The fifth skill challenge is found at Hunter's Lake. To get to this skill challenge, you'll have to go underground through an ice cave. The cave is full of ice wurm hatchlings, and there are a lot of them. At the bottom of the cave, you'll find Aging Ale Barrels. Interact with them and you'll receive one. Use it and you'll gain the skill point. This is probably the hardest skill challenge in the Wayfarer Foothills. The number of ice wurm hatchlings, matched with their quick respawn speed, makes this one a challenge. It can be soloed if you are careful and heal up between fights. Once you get the skill point, use your map [M] to quickly travel out.

Skill Challenge #6 - The Frozen Maw

Our next skill challenge in the Wayfarer Foothills lies at the Frozen Maw, which lies to the east of Hunter's Lake. There are two aspects of this skill challenge that is difficult. The first is that the skill challenge lies in an area filled with enemies. I would definitely recommend clearing the area before starting the skill challenge. The second is the skill challenge fight itself.

Once you've cleared the area, you can interact with a corrupted spike, which will spawn an elder icebrood troll and two minions. The fight is a tough one but is manageable if you've cleared the area first. If you haven't cleared the area, expect to be attacked and brought down by the additional creatures in the area.

Skill Challenge #7 - Svanir's Dome

The seventh skill challenge found in the Wayfarer Foothills is located at Svanir's Dome. This is a pretty tough skill challenge. First the skill challenge is located in an area swarming with the Sons of Svanir. Once you've reached the skill challenge location, you'll interact with Bjord's Banner, which will start a brutal fight. To win the skill point, you'll have to defeat Bjord Frossenson and his two minions. The two minions are easy, but Bjord is a tough cookie. Make sure you're fully prepped before you start the fight. While Bjord doesn't do anything special, he does hit hard and has a lot of hits. If need be, slow him down and kite him around to give your healing ability time to cooldown.

Skill Challenge #8 - Warmspring Grotto

The last skill challenge in the Wayfarer Foothills is found at the Warmspring Grotto. All you have to do to complete this skill challenge is commune with the Ancient Cave Spring, which is a pillar of light. The area is full of cave spiders and there is a veteran cave spider right before the pillar of light. A few dead spiders and you're good to go.

Skill challenges are a nifty way to earn extra skill points in Guild Wars 2. You'll notice that the majority of skill challenges in the Wayfarer Foothills requires fighting. Man, those norn sure do love themselves some combat. Some of the skill challenges are pretty easy, but there are three that can be tough: Hunter's Lake, Svanir's Dome, and the Frozen Maw. If in doubt, bring some friends and you should grab all eight skill points in the Wayfarer Foothills in no time.
