Guide to Farming Black Lion Chest Keys

Guide to Black Lion Chest Keys

Now you could purchase the keys at one for 125 gems (vaguely a dollar and a half) , or 5 for 450 (just over five dollars). You could try to convert your gold to gems at a conversion rate that is steadily increasing. However, there is a great method one we're going to outline in this guide fully to help you farm Black Lion Keys in as little time as thirty minutes to an hour, depending on if you have any help.

Preparations

Helpful Items

The most important thing you're going to need is a spare character slot as you will be deleting and recreating characters over and over again to redo these first few Personal Story missions.

Some things that will speed things up a few minutes is if your Guild Wars 2 is a Deluxe Edition, in which you will get a Hero's Band and a Golem Banker. The Hero's Band will help you hit just a little harder to get you through some nastier spots and the Golem Banker will cut down your time having to travel to a town bank.

Finally, a useful thing to have is a low level white greatsword in your bank. One you make sure to drop off at the end of each run, and pick up in the starter area via your Golem Banker (if you have one). With this you will be able to increase the output of damage and not have to waste time picking one up every run, and by the time you get out of the starter area you will already have unlocked a lot of the skills on it.

Character Creation

Sylvari Ranger

What we recommend is that you make a Sylvari Ranger with the Shield of the Moon dream and the Jungle Stalker pet.

The sylvari starting area is very simple and has almost no waiting time between events necessary to get through it quickly, unlike the many faceted parts required in the other races starting areas.

A ranger for your Jungle Stalker pet. This pet will assist you in aggro, DPS and the downed skill that not only heals you, but instantly heals your pet to full and soaks some damage as it heals you. The Jungle Stalker in particular for it's might buff to assist you in hashing out damage even faster and the four stacks of vulnerability it can hash out to make things even faster. As well as for the Flame Trap utility you will unlock at level five for a substantial boost in your DPS.

Finally, the Shield of the Moon dream as we find it to be the least time consuming Personal Story arch for the first few missions compared to the White Stag and Huntsman. All of the missions in the Shield of the Moon are straight forward, especially if you choose the option to rescue Ysvelta.

Step One (Solo Farm)

Key Guide Map

Get to level five or six by killing every single enemy on your way to various hearts on your map, especially passive creatures like does or grub wurms (creatures that are left unkilled for long periods of time grant an extra experience bonus that can be up to 200% depending on how long they have been left alone and typically passive creatures have these bonuses). Make sure you stop to do any dynamic mission that pops up on the way, and knock out any achievements you can in this small area (as they give a substantial experience boost and get you to level five faster).

Step Two (Solo Farm)

As soon as you hit level five or six begin doing you personal story. By the time you get to the level ten mission you will be around 7 or 8 (or higher if you have any guild boosts or strong realm boost) and should be able to manage it just fine. Make sure you let your pet lead attacks into groups, and heal when it's health is low to keep it going.

Parties

If you have more than one person in this farm I would recommend you get yourself to about level four off the world map, then focus in personal story missions. More bodies, especially if all rangers, should make this farm a cake walk and even cut the time down to twenty minutes if you have the farm down to an art.

Step Three

Make sure you sell your excess items to the trading post or a merchant (whichever profits more). Don't bother salvaging unless you have to and deposit your key, excess coin and your greatsword into your bank before deleting your character! This won't net you huge amounts of gold, but there is no sense letting it go to waste especially if you are farming large amounts of keys.

Make a human warrior and pick in the start up bio "commoner"

Just focus on doing the story. When given the choise pick "save the hospital". By the time you are around lvl 5 you will be in story lvl 10. Just sit back and relax. The npc's do all the work for you there.

No need to grind out lvl's this way.

the time to money ratio is horrible for this farm.....

1 key every 30 min..... that's garbage.....

its like working a job for $2.50 per hour...

i say just pick up an extra hour at work every week and buy the damn keys....

this way playing the game is actually fun.....

The question isn't whether keys are worth getting (which is an entire different argument altogether), but whether this is an efficient method of obtaining keys.  Keys you acquire via gems (whether from gold conversion or using real money) have the same chance at those items you're underlining, so your point is moot.

#1 you assume the person has a job #2 you assume their job will allow them to work more than 28 hours
