At PAX ArenaNet made some big announcements beyond just their Super Adventure Box story: Tequatl Rising , new LFG tool, teasing us with the Season-styled WvW and hinting to big changes coming in gameplay. Finally, while the patch is imminent I do want to have some discussion and review of what may be on way.
For those of you who missed the PAX live run of this fight? I am so excited. For the most part we all know what Tequatl is like: Run up to his big toe and kick it repeatedly, run a few conditions cleanses and stunbreakers, and stay out of the big red rings if one of those big risen explode. It's fire and forget the entire time, pretty much.
The new fight? Phases of combat, using the environmental weapons are key and you need to protect NPCs, but also your fellow players. It's a very involved fight from what we've seen, and from the three (I think ~40 man groups composed of players and Devs) teams NONE of them managed to beat it. You won't be standing still in this fight.
They also took a step in the right direction when it comes to loot for this updated boss, too. You will get all your loot at the end. No running around to pick up loot during the fight, it'll all be collected and given at the end (and depending on how many phases you fight) so that you will only be focusing on this badass Dragon Lieutenant.
The loot by the way? We're looking at a new back piece, Ascended Weapons that drop skins you can only get from Tequatl and a chance to get a Tequatl mini. On top of all those other drops that will amass in the end chest. This sort of loot system reminds me of the name, skinned items that dropped from various bosses from Guild Wars 1 and I am all about that.
This isn't the only boss to get changed, either. All the bosses are getting some revamp to make them "more challenging and fun". Call me a skeptic but if it's just health boosts and more one-shot attacks I'm going to be sorely disappointed. Give me things that require skills! Not just a graphed attack I'll have to dodge whiel slowly chiseling away at a mountain of health.
The whole new LFG tool will start rolling out today! Unfortunately it won't be for the entirety of the players, but they will be rolling it out til we're all accepted into it. Fully customizable descriptions, ability to advertise across all servers or zone-wide, ability to quick condense parties and even preview the classes that are already in group. A huge tool that will really stream line parties and keep the focus IG. One of the BEST house-keeping updates to date, in my opinion.
Ruins of Power
World v World is getting a huge map update as well as sort of returning the world-based buffs based on which team owning all the Ruins. This will be a great way to upset things in evenly-matched games and could turn rankings upside down, especially in the upcoming WvW Season One.
However, I'm on the fence on this one. On one hand I'm afraid of already powerful worlds getting that much more powerful and really waffle-stomping the other worlds. The other hand says this will add an interesting new dynamic to the WvW match-ups and pose whole new strategies since the map is physically changing. All I know is I expect to see some interesting upsets in key world match-ups.
