Guild Wars 2: Guides, Guides, Guides!

July 12, 2012 - 1:09pm -- Lewis B
Guild Wars 2 Centaur

In a follow up to Sardu’s 'From the Editors Lab', I thought it might be worthwhile letting all our readers know that over the next few weeks, in the run up to release, we’ll be producing and publishing a large quantity of Guild Wars 2 guides.

Ranging from conditions and boons to how to make money, they’ll cover a spectrum for those completely new to Guild Wars 2 as well as those more experienced.  If you’ve already read Combo Fields and Finishers or The Do's and Don'ts of Kyhlo and Niflhel, you’ll have had a little taste of what our guides will be all about.

The intention behind the guides is to build upon on the very basic mechanics or systems in the game and personalize them with our own hands on experiences.  Whether that’s providing details as to what boons really are worth using or how best to maximise your build, we’ll have it covered.

We also want to hear what guides you want to see us produce and if it isn’t already on the list (it’s a long list) we’ll get straight on it.  With that in mind, are there any guides you'd like to see first?

I am hoping for a nice in depth Cooking Guide.

Seems complicated but I plan to be a Cook as my primary.

I think a guide detailing a lot of the vague ability descriptions would be nice.  Many have unkowns that, if illuminated, would help the community in general make more informed build choices.  Sometimes you are stuck looking at two really good looking abilities, but are unsure due to some of the unknowns.  This can affect traits as well (for example the internal cooldown on enfeeble etc. when entering Deathshroud, which is not noted in the description,  may make you decide to not go with the trait for shorter cooldown on Deathshroud).

Not taking away any possible guides on cooking, but Enigmius1 has several crafting videos on YouTube that are well done.  I think he has one dedicated to cooking...the craft I'll be taking on my main.

Agreed -- Enigmius1's crafting guides are excellent. One of them is indeed devoted to cooking.

Hello and thanks for the job already done, and for the work to come.

Actually, I'm really interested by a central subject, barely treated by others : A strategy guide of WvWvW.

There's so many things to attend in WvWvW (including PVE, escorts, carrying supplies, building siege weapons, structures to focus, and so on), that one can easily be lost.

A guide which would tell us what are the most effective ways to be helpfull, solo or in a small group (3-10), would be very, very welcome.

Keep on the good work!

A guide for skill points, would be great at the game start.

What sylvinstar pointed about the vague ability descriptions seems good too.

I am pretty new to MMOs and for me a big help would be an outline of the combat system and how to be efficient at it.

Also a newb guide, getting started, pvp, money, skills, basics of getting by. The simple things experienced people take for granted.(ie strafe vs turning, finding a good guild to help mentor)

Then maybe a more advanced one tactics and advice to maximize skill.

Enjoyed the interview and look forward to future content. Excited that i got into the beta, always nice to try before paying money and helping make the game better.

Thanks

Lewis B interviewed Team Paradigm

http://www.guildwars2hub.com/features/interviews/interview-team-paradigm

I've been to their site and they are not only very good at structured PvP, they are very open and sharing with the community about builds and strategy.  They are solely focused on structured tournament play, but I have found some of their builds and information to be very beneficial.  They have hosted a couple profession nights (thief and necro) and provided an open invitation to the community to join their teamspeak server so that people could discuss the classes and ask questions.

I have ghosted their boards a bit and listened in on a good deal of the thief conversation (they recorded it and posted a link for people to listen in if they missed out on the live talk), and I've found them to be very accommodating and non-judgemental/egotistical.

You might want to head over to their team site and browse around.

A New Player Guide would be my personal preference.  There are a lot of new people starting to wander in from out in the cold, wanting to understand GW2 and how it works.  I think a lot of them would find a New Player Guide extremely helpful right now.

In fact, even though I've played in all the BWE's, even I know there are things I don't know or understand and I'm sure I could still find things that are useful.

Oh, and just to be clear, what I'm talking about when I say a New Player Guide, is kind of like the General Discussion thread I started a long time back titled "Next BWE I'll do it differently, now that I know...."  There is a lot of good info in there to help starting players learn a few of the important lessons before they ever even login to the game, thus making their first visit, I believe, a worthwhile and enjoyable one.
