Guild Wars 2 Guides

From The Editor's Lab - Volume Three

It’s considered a journalistic faux pas to begin an article with a question, so I’m not going to… or am I? Things have been incredibly busy here at the GW2Hub HQ this month, and I have a lot of exciting news and info to share with everyone. In this episode we’ll be taking a look at PAX Prime and the GW2 launch party, post-launch guide updates, home world selection for Team GW2Hub, and lots more.

PAX Prime Meet-Up and GW2 Launch Party

As much as I’d love to take my entire team to PAX Prime with me this year to unwind a bit from the insane publishing schedule I implemented for this month, I’ll be soloing that particular dynamic event again this year. Even though Guild Wars 2 will not be in the exhibit hall this year, there are some other events happening that weekend worth checking out.

For starters, our friends over at MMO Reporter will be having a social meet up at the Elephant and Castle in Seattle on Thursday, August 30th at 7 PM. I’ll be attending, and would love to meet up with any of our readers who will be in the area. The full details for the meet up can be found over on the PAX event page over on MMOReporter.com.

I’ll also be attending the launch party for Guild Wars 2 that weekend, so I hope I get to meet some of you there. For those of you unable to attend, I’ll be burning the midnight oil that night to publish a recap of the event, including loads of pictures, quotes, and random anecdotes.

Home World Selection

It’s not every day you get to choose an entire world to call your own, but today is obviously a pretty special one. For anyone interested, the core GW2Hub home world is going to be Sorrow’s Furnace in North America. We’ve been playing on Sorrow’s since the start of the beta events and it’s always been good to us, so decided a move wasn’t necessarily in order.

In the event that we decide to transfer elsewhere, we’ll be sure to post an update on our forums and official Twitter feed (@GW2_Hub). We also plan on putting a guild together for anyone who wants to join and hang out with their favorite GW2 writing team. If you’re interested in joining, shoot a request to me at Sardu.7948 in-game.

If you already belong to a guild or otherwise aren’t sure which world you want to begin playing on this weekend, be sure to check out gw2guilds.org for an awesome breakdown of home worlds by region, guild population, and alliances. Hats off to Dark for putting together such a great resource for players!

Let Us Guide You

Since we first embarked upon our journey towards becoming the leading source for Guild Wars 2 guides on the web, we’ve produced a staggering 99 unique guides since BWE3 wrapped up. I really wasn’t joking when I said I was committed to making GW2Hub your one stop shop for guides!

As our library of guides and gameplay info continues to expand, I’m also committed to making it as easy as possible to find exactly what you’re looking for. For starters, we recently revamped our core Professions guide page, and we have even more awesome advanced guides to each profession already in the works.

We also unleashed a cleaner, slicker version of our main Guides page in the wee hours this while many of you were sleeping, or in a post-stress test state of bliss. We have a lot more guide content headed your way, and are already in the process of yet another great revamp to the Guides page to make it even easier to find the exact thing you’re looking for.

Of course with all these guides, we also have a plan in place to make sure they see any necessary updates to keep current with the live game. In the meantime, if you ever spot something that needs revision, don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments and we’ll see to it that any updates are made in a timely fashion.

The Calm before the Storm

While the clock continues to tick down to the beginning of the headstart weekend, I wanted to offer a sincere thanks to all the GW2 fans out there that have helped this site grow over the past five months. Now that the game is finally about to launch, we’re looking forward to continuing the journey, and can’t wait to take our first steps in Tyria with you.

Finally, we’d like to send out a very special thanks to everyone at ArenaNet for creating such an amazing gaming experience. You should all be very proud of what you’ve accomplished with Guild Wars 2!

Keep up the good work, and remember, when in doubt, kill a guardian.

I'll see you all at launch! laugh

Are you a guardian? Let me introduce you to my Flesh Golem, he's getting a bit hungry.

Great pre-Tyria wrap-upsmiley  The amount of guides you all have put out is pretty staggering.  Are there particular ones you will be updating?  Also, will you be adding specific class sections to the forums?
