Diary Of - Entry 5: To The Weather Machine!

Diary of

After leaving the Guardian down in the crypts (we'd quickly completed the skill challenge) I decided that I'd join my band of merry men in the Mists for some World vs. World.

Teleporting to the Blue World, my guild have congregated on the island in the center of Daemonspell Lake.

"Quaggan?" I ask, as I finally arrive.

"Yeah, the weather machine is here, isn't it?" someone responds.

"I think so, I couldn't tell you what it does though" I reply.

Looking at the Tadpole-like creatures, it makes me realise how much I wish I could play one.  Between the Kodan, Tengu and Quaggan, I'm praying for an expansion to the playable races.

Moving to the waters edge, I forget I've only unlocked two of my five harpoon gun skills and my flamethrower is completely useless in the water, spluttering like an old engine.

"Red invaders are incoming".

Looking to the north, a group of around ten invaders are wading into the shallow water and are beginning to swim in our direction.  Unknown to them, some of my merry men are already waiting like sharks in the water below them.

As I'm about to submerge to meet the group head on, a Red invader appears to my right.  She must have become separated from her group and approached our island from the opposite side. It quickly becomes apparent that this Elementalist is not low level. As we round on her she instantly turns into a tornado and sends the nearest of us flying into the lake.

Scrambling back up the bank, I switch to my flamethrower and drop my rifle turret before air blasting  the Elementalist onto the outer edge of the water.

"She's heading for her group, get in the water!" one of my merry men shouts.

As we follow her and submerge, the Red invaders she was counting on for support have already been caught by our hidden group and are now frantically fleeing back to shore in retreat.

'Let them run?" I ask the group, feeling a little compassionate.

"Run? Run them down more like".

As we all make for the surface on the north bank, the surviving Red invaders turn east towards Shadaran Hills to hide behind their keep walls.  Heading over the brow of the nearest hill in pursuit, the Red invaders have stopped and are running back towards us having found reinforcements.  The group have swelled to well over double our number.

"Get in the bloody water!" we all shout in unison as we turn around and head straight for the Quaggan island.

Submerging for the second time, things take a turn for the worse as we're suddenly surrounded by dozens of Krait.  Fighting our way through them as quickly as we can,  I suddenly unlock Retreating Grapple.

"You might want to make use of that." says a nearby friend who's only a little behind me and who is struggling to wade through the sheer numbers.

"I think I'm going to need it"

"Its not looking good."  my friend replies, as the Krait and Red invaders swarm around us.

Agreed with above.

Are you a guardian? Let me introduce you to my Flesh Golem, he's getting a bit hungry.

I demand MOAR!

Gotta love this stuff...  Think i'll spend far more time in WvW next weekend.  I neglected it far too much last time around.  I should look for a guild to roll with me thinks.

"Between the Kodan, Tengu and Quaggan, I'm praying for an expansion to the playable races."

Ditto.

I'm so happy that ArenaNet didn't make the same foolish error BioWare did with their MassEffect universe, and to a lesser degree with SWTOR.

Humans being the only playable race in the original GW is "okay" as a start (although it's one of the reasons I'm not interested in playing that game) but it would have been a shame if they had stuck to that for GW2.  The asura and sylvari in particular are infinitely interesting and appealing to me personally, and I would welcome the opportunity to play as a tengu also.  That's an expansion I would happily pay for.
