After a good few weeks I’ve finally broken the 100g barrier. This was helped a huge amount, as I predicted, by Gem prices sky rocketing to 85 silver per 100. As I had 8000, that’s a fair old chunk of money. As it currently stands, I’ve around 130g in total with 45 gold’s worth of items just waiting to be sold on the trading post.
What I will add is that the gem price rise is indicative of how we can expect to see the cycle occurring every holiday season. On that basis when the gem prices do fall back to previous levels (around 40 silver per 100) I would sincerely advise that you invest in them. They will inevitably rise again during the Christmas period which is only a couple of months away that will undoubtedly see you earn a great deal.
The most amusing thing about earning this money is that I can’t actually bring myself to spend it. I’ve begun to break out into a cold sweat at the thought of spending even a single penny of it. Admittedly I would have been over 10g better off had I not used crafting to level my Engineer (that was a worthy cause) and looking at the Tier 3 cultural armour again, I’m really not sure it’s worth the investment.
I’ve therefore made the decision that I’m going to pursue a legendary weapon instead. Considering there’s nothing else in the game that I have any interest in spending my money on something ‘worthwhile’ (I use that term very loosely considering it is just a weapon skin) seems a reasonable investment. The stumbling block on this however is the precursor (which is an absolute travesty of a system) but money does afford you the luxury of at least obtaining one, rather than what feels like playing Russian roulette on the Mystic Forge.

I estimate I need around 500g for a legendary weapon which seems a million miles away at the moment but once the precursor is bought or discovered, the remainder are very much a labour of love rather than something unobtainable. As it currently stands, I’m still “flipping” items for a profit and while this isn’t quick (around 5s profit per item) it is a guarantee of income when supplemented by dungeon runs or events.
I will add that when flipping, it really is important that you diversify your purchases. At the moment, I’m still testing the water with what does and doesn’t sell in terms of rare or weapons, although it seems all do. I’ve also made a tidy profit on bags over the last few days, having purchased several 20 slot bags for around 8g only to sell them on for a little over 12g. Admittedly it did take a while for these orders to fulfil (24 hours) but was well worth the wait. What I can’t understand is who is fulfilling my buy orders for these bags, considering they will make a loss!
All that aside, I’m going to be dipping my toes into salvaging from supply bags over the next few days to see whether there is any financial viability in it. I’ve heard rumours there can be, but having only explored it briefly, it felt like a lot of effort for not much reward.
Tip Of The Day
Halloween is here and for a limited time only various unique items make their way into the world. Due to that reason, I would seriously recommend you stock up on Candy Corn as much as possible (as well as any other unique skin for that matter) because as soon as Halloween ends, these items will be in huge demand.
