Dolyak Delivery - 29 October 2012

Dolyak Delivery

A little later than planned due to the Mad King making an appearance in Tyria, this weeks’ Dolyak Delivery covers a lot about Halloween and the events surrounding it.  On this crisp Monday morning, what better way to spend the first few minutes of your day?

First on the list is the Mad King event, erupting from the fountain in Lions Arch.  Were you there? Did you manage to get in? Or like many were you stuck outside the fountain, crying because everyone else could take part? Luckily my party and I managed to get in the moment the Mad King disappeared and killed him fairly easily.  Unfortunately, we never had the option to use emotes (the skill bar never changed) meaning we were regularly punished.  Overall however, I found the encounter a little too easy but a lot of fun.  Having now completed it five times, I think I’ve had my fill.

If you are still trying to catch-up on the Halloween events, Dulfy have posted a guide on the Mad King encounter for anyone struggling to know just what to do or where to go.

Still with Mad King events, have you all taken on the Clock Tower? It took me around 45 minutes which seems quite quick compared to some peoples continued attempts.  What I loved most about it was the fact it was an event you just had to have one more go on.  I will freely admit however that it was infuriating at times, but I think a lot of that had to do with the fact you can’t always see where to jump because of other players in the way.  Here’s a good video of an individual also opening every chest on their way round! There’s also an enormous post about it on the forums; some people aren’t happy.

Have you taken part in the new MOBA-style PvP mode as part of the Halloween event? Reapers Rumble sees two teams protecting three mausoleums that spawn skeletons. If you’re a fan of MOBA (I’ve really gotten into SMITE lately) then you’ll love this.  It’s an idea that is in its infancy, but I think it has huge potential.

For anyone interested in the lore behind the Mad King, you might want to check out this thread.

Changing subjects a little, this forum thread made me smile as it gives a prime example of the small changes ArenaNet can make, to make their player base happy.  Swapping out the Elementalist downed trait was much needed and yet it took months and months. What I find surprising is why does it take months for such logical and sensible changes? I have two primary gripes with the Engineer at the moment, the first being its downed state (skill 2 never works) and would love for our Bomb Blast to be moved in its place. Better yet, why don’t all professions just have the same downed skills? Surely this would remove 99% of the issues…

This thread is a few days old now, but I’ve been watching it with some interest as the suggestion is rather good. Bunkers are a huge problem in Guild Wars 2, so much so that I would say it is crippling a key feature of the game.  When every single team is running a guardian and elementalist bunker, in order to ensure a single point is never contested, something is seriously wrong.  Having played tournaments again yesterday, there was one moment where four of us were attacking a guardian completely unable to kill him.  Even as a condition Engineer, cutting him down with poison and boon removal wasn’t even working.

Lastly, Gamespy produced a similar article to my own this week, highlighting the blight of bots and hackers in Guild Wars 2.  I’ve linked directly to the forum discussion on it as Colin Johanson sheds some light on the issue…
