Considering there's going to be a huge beta event later in March, it seems like launch can't be too far off. I personally think they'll launch sometime before the end of the summer, BUT at the same time I could see Anet having a launch party during gamescom since they have such a huge community that shows up for that event every year.
Any thoughts on when launch might be?

As taken from Regina's Twitter feed, They'll start beta's in late April, and have one every other month or so. I think it might be a little further away than most are hoping for right now.

I would like to say they would tell us on the pre-purchase date... Why would I put 150$ on a game with no release date.

It would be nice, but SWTOR had the pre-purchase a good month or so prior to unveiling the release date. I'll stick with your optimism though!

I'm predicting sep. That gives enough room for a few betas, in-game tweaks/balancing and not too far away as to make people rage after pre-purchasing.
Because I'm worth it.

I would imagine that after the first beta that includes pre-purchase folks (like myself), they might announce a release date. These tests will probably be the largest stress test on their internal systems to date so it will give them a good idea how much work will need to be done to make it release-ready.
