First up is an excellent article from my good friend Ravious over at Kill Ten Rats.  Discussing some of the lesser talked about elements of Guild Wars 2, he sheds light on the Bank and Trading Post and examples some success in playing the 'auction house' game.  Remember; buy low, sell high!

Next up is a preview of Guild Wars 2 from The Escapist, a website I hold dear. While there isn't anything tantalizingly new for many who already know the fundamental workings of Guild Wars 2, it's good to see as wide an audience as possible providing cover of the beta weekend event.

I still can't get used to Forbes providing game news, but based on the video game industry generating income into the billions of dollars, I suppose it isn't at all surprising that they're providing coverage.  Written by someone who doesn't play MMOG's (by their own admission) the article is surprisingly good and it's always nice to hear that someone who traditionally dislikes the genre, has really enjoyed playing Guild Wars 2.

Massively have a very quirky article covering the graveyard outside of Divinity's Reach, with plenty of humor to be had from the headstones (don't worry, it isn't as morbid as it sounds!) the article really highlights some of the finer details that have gone into the world of Guild Wars 2 and the fun that ArenaNet have had throughout development.

Luna Atra, the people behind one of Guild Wars 2's most famous skill tools have just released a brand new Craft Tool.  As lovingly presented and designed as their others, the Craft Tool details all the disciplines available, providing plenty of recipes to get you started.  Definitely one to bookmark.

Guild Wars 2 Guru have also been busy over recent weeks.  With a successful redesign, they've also just launched their new Guild Wars 2 Database created to "cater to all your item/recipe/achievement/trait look-up needs”. If you also see yourself as wanting a more prominent role within the Guild Wars 2 community, Guru are advertising for a News Correspondant and Forum Moderator so why not try your luck?

Bio Break have listed 30 things about the Guild Wars 2 Beta that is well worth a read. My particular favorite is "3. They don't put boobs on the female Charr." I can't possibly think where he is drawing his comparisons...

Lastly is a really excellent post from ArenaNet's Bobby Stein that tackles some of the criticisms aimed at Guild Wars 2's writing, voice acting and personal story.  I've interviewed Bobby Stein several times and he's not only an incredibly passionate person, but is absolutely determined to ensure that Guild Wars 2 offers some of the best story driven content that the genre has to offer. Check it out.

Interesting Forbes article

Nice wrap up post. I found the Forbes article particularly interesting. Written by a gamer but not one that likes MMOs.  A very different perspective compared to most of us who have been following the game for some time and have predetermined expectations. I will say that I was a bit annoyed with some of her evaluations of the game (like not knowing what the hearts are for). I understand that she just wasn't familiar with it and it's important to know how completely new people will see things, but she wrote some of the piece like she DID know what was going on. It could give readers false impressions.

Not everyone can be Jeff Grubb

As an avid fan of books and foreign films, I can read the subtitles WAY BEFORE whoever is saying it is done speaking. (I have terrible dictation, though. XD) To me, the varying styles and quality of writing was like going through my own bookshelf. I've got Paolini next to David Eddings, Alan Dean Foster mixed in with Gary Gygax series, Parasol Protectorate sharing space with So You Want To Be A Wizard. If you don't like a race's story, play a different race. Jeff Grubb is the only guy there with a resume as long as one of his books, but his writing style may not be the same as the other writers on the team. Personally, since it's MY STORY, I would've loved the opportunity to write it myself, or at least choose all throughout how my story would go, not just here and there, but we all know how badly a certain VO-heavy game is doing now, right? ;)

Cool news update...but Forbes /facepalm

I'm happy to see another tool put out by the LA team.  I've only looked at it for a few minutes but it seems pretty solid.  I'm not surprised a DB site is out from the Curse folks; I'll be spending some time on that I'm sure.

I do have a little problem with the Forbes article.  I'd compare this article to me covering the fast food industry because I eat at Wendy's and McDonald's.  I appreciate the honesty of coming out and saying you don't play MMO's, but outside of maybe hitting your deadline for some new material for your job why even right it?  Absolutely nothing new is covered so it essentially becomes a repeat of content that's already been beaten like a dead horse.  I always invite a sense of fresh perspective but this equated to me showing my Grandpa what the internet was all about only to have him basically pat me on the head as he went about his business.  I just about slammed my head into my keyboard when I got to this part...

"Another annoyance: I couldn’t swap out weapons until I was level 7. Seriously irritating. What else can I say? I didn’t get to try crafting, though it’s clearly in the game. While I availed myself of a pick, I never got to the requisite level 10 to use it. And I didn’t try PvP because I don’t care about PvP. Despite that being a major point of Guild Wars (the clue is in the name), wonderfully, there’s no obvious need to participate. I didn’t get to earn a skill point, so I didn’t get a chance to try out training or expansion of my abilities."

Seriously?  With the Gaming industry swimming in cash this is the best Forbes can do in covering a Top Ten news story of 2012 for all of PC Gaming?!?

/sigh

Don't be fooled by the DB --

Don't be fooled by the DB -- it's currently just data parsed directly from the official wiki. Same stuff, different presentation. Kind of a cheap way of getting a foothold in the DB market before Zam can release something and steamroll everyone like they did with SWTOR IMO, but to each their own I suppose.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm a huge fan of both Guru sites, and have been for a very long time. Curse though? Not so much, especially when they gank years of hard work done by the GW2 community and call it their own. Kind of lame, but what do I know?

Where did you ever get such a

Where did you ever get such a crazy idea?

I thought everyone knew I was secretly working on a line of Lawn Asura. They're kind of like lawn gnomes, only they don't wear lame pointy hats or inspire you to kick them every time you see one. They're going to be THE hottest item for the 2012 holiday season, just you wait and see!

New Idea!

You need to get licensing in place for Bobblehead Asura so I can put one next to my Buddy Christ.
